Somewhere on a snowy winter sea, the lanterns are lit in the captain's cabin. Father Christmas, in a captain's cap, is bent over the map table with a thick book and a brass compass.

Hidden among the bookshelves, the portholes, the sea chest, the ship's wheel and the coils of rope are 24 little doors. Behind each one is the most famous scene from a classic adventure novel. Every morning in December, find the door, open it and guess the book.

A sailor tied to the mast while sirens sing. A prisoner escaping an island fortress. A sled dog howling under the northern lights. A chariot race, a jousting tournament, an arrow split in two… How many voyages have you been on?

How it works

1. Find the door. Search the cabin for today's number, hidden on a bookshelf, the map table, the sea chest or the walls.
2. Open it. A hand-drawn scene from a great adventure story is waiting inside.
3. Guess the book. Name the novel, then the author for bonus points.
4. Check the answers on Christmas Eve. All 24 books, with their authors and publication years, are listed on an illustrated answer sheet, sealed in its own envelope.
