Winter Birds – Bird Watching Advent Calendar
A hand-illustrated advent calendar for bird lovers: find 24 hidden doors in a snowy cottage garden and guess the winter bird behind each one.
Product description
It's Christmas Eve in a snowy cottage garden. The bird feeders are full, the bird bath has frozen over, and Father Christmas is scattering seed with a robin perched on his hand.
Hidden among the bare oak tree, the holly bush, the fence, the garden shed and the snowman are 24 little doors. Behind each one is a beautifully drawn winter bird. Every morning in December, find the door, open it and name the bird.
A bright red cardinal on a snowy branch. A tiny chickadee in a black cap. A snowy owl on the tundra. A waxwing feasting on berries… Some you'll see at your own feeder. Others will send you reaching for the binoculars.
How it works
- Find the door. Search the snowy garden for today's number, hidden on the tree, the fence, the shed or in the bushes.
- Open it. A detailed hand-drawn winter bird is waiting inside, drawn like a little field-guide portrait.
- Name the bird. Common name first, Latin name for bonus points.
- Check the answers on Christmas Eve. All 24 birds, with their scientific names and where they live, are listed on an illustrated answer sheet, sealed in its own envelope.
Why bird lovers adore it
- A daily bird quiz: 24 winter birds from back gardens, forests, mountains and the Arctic.
- Backyard favourites and wild wonders: Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, Dark-eyed Junco, European Robin, Snowy Owl, Bohemian Waxwing, Emperor Penguin and more.
- A Christmas finale: door 24 reveals the most famous Christmas bird of all, the partridge in a pear tree.
- Hand-illustrated artwork: a cosy ink-and-watercolour snowy garden full of feeders, berries and little birds to spot.
- Screen-free and sugar-free: a December ritual for nature lovers of every age.
Perfect for
Bird watchers and backyard birders, nature lovers, gardeners, grandparents, families who love their bird feeder, science teachers and anyone who stops everything when a cardinal lands outside the window.
